Congratulations to Prof. Linda Quinn Allen and our alumna Sarah Nelson (WLC graduate 2012) for the recognition they received at the 2013 Iowa World Language Association (IWLA) Conference!

Dr. Allen, associate professor of French and World Language Education, was elected Vice-President of the IWLA. She will serve on the Executive Board of the association for four years. Dr. Allen has been a faculty member in World Languages and Cultures and the School of Education at Iowa State University since August, 2000. An active member of the IWLA, Dr. Allen has presented 12 conference sessions and recruited over 100 new members to the association.

Sarah Nelson received the Michael Oates Teacher of Promise Award. This award recognizes new teachers who show exceptional potential and passion for world language education. Sarah is a first-year Spanish teacher in the Ankeny School District. She completed her student teaching with Mrs. Kelley Grothus at Madrid High School and worked as a long-term substitute teacher at Urbandale High School during the spring semester 2013. Sarah is the second ISU graduate to receive the award since its inception in 2012.
