Alumni Profile: Theresa McKeon

Following a year of working full time and thinking about what I wanted to do in terms of a career and further study, I decided to apply to graduate programs in the United Kingdom. I study European history and I was very interested in applying to universities overseas, given my topic of study. The application process was a long one and I spent another year working and saving money before I found out that I had been offered a spot at the University of Cambridge. I majored in French and International Studies with a minor in history at Iowa State and I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started my course here, but I feel I have been well prepared.

There are 24 of us from ten different countries, but the one thing we all have in common (besides our enthusiasm for history) is our background in language. Every student is required to have previous knowledge of at least one other language, as we spend a lot of time reading and analyzing primary source documents originating from all over Europe, in my case France. The education I received at Iowa State has equipped me with the knowledge to succeed in my graduate career and I am a grateful and proud alumni!
